Why “The Curious Lark”?
In my decades of experience working with young children and the adults who support them, I return again and again to the idea, “Get Curious!” Replacing this concept with assumptions, judgements, and stories we tell ourselves allows us to be open to what is actually happening and consider possible paths ahead.
I also love birds and, when I decided to take this unconventional path (on a lark, you could say), I realized that the lark symbolizes new beginnings and joy. This grounded me in my purpose of curious joy when working with the wonderful humans who support young children.
Who Am I?
I’m Courtney! I have worked in education since 2002 in many capacities (see My Experience below). While the majority of my work has been in the Montessori education field, I have also worked with and am open to other educational pedagogies.
I know that the work of being a parent, educator, and school leader is not without its challenges, as well as its joys. My greatest joy is supporting adults who are guiding infants and young children into their potential. I also realize that every situation is different and must be approached with empathy, active listening, and individualized support. While I could create classes and workshops that were standard, I do not believe that they would be as impactful as deeply understanding the unique situations each client has.
